Public Appeal
The National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC) has observed increasing incidents of calling/visiting, interviewing, and sharing videos/recordings/images of children, particularly in relation to a recent case. It has been observed that stories, including videos and voice recordings, are being shared in both mainstream and social media by the general public, including the media.
While the NCWC respects the freedom of choice of individuals to express their views/opinions, it is emphasized that these acts are not in the best interest of the child and could lead to further re-victimization. Such examples can hamper survivors of similar violence from seeking support, thereby creating a culture of violence acceptance and fear of reporting.
Therefore, the NCWC would like to urge the general public and relevant agencies/individuals to refrain from such acts. Failure to abide by this notification shall be dealt with as per the Child Care and Protection Act of Bhutan 2011.
